15:20 – 16:00 Networking break

16:00 – 16:40 Innovative preservation concepts for wet wipes – opportunities despite legal impacts: The demand on human safety is constantly growing and wet wipes are amongst the most highly sensitive consumer products with respect to microbial contamination. There are various types of wet wipes in our daily life used by consumers such as Baby Care, Personal Care and Home Care. Sufficient microbiological stability of such wet wipes can only be achieved by adequate preservation. In contrast, biocides and preservatives are increasingly regulated and limited by global authorities. Market trends towards more ‘natural’ and ‘green’ products continue to force the wet wipe industry to permanently reformulate and amend their formulations.

The presentation will give a brief update on the current legal status of common biocides and preservatives. Innovative and more individual concepts will be demonstrated to successfully prevent microbial contamination in wet wipes by using integrated and validated Microbiological Quality Management systems (MQM). Risks and benefits from alternative preservatives or antimicrobial actives will be shown by microbiological challenge test results.
